HID Access Control

HID security technology

HID Mobile Access Integrator

Evolution works with HID across credential technology, reader estates and mobile access, and deploys HID credentials within the enterprise access control platforms we support.

Moving from Legacy Cards to Secure HID Credentials

Almost always the same thing, arriving in different words: our cards are old and someone has told us they can be cloned.

They are usually right. MIFARE Classic, using the Crypto-1 cipher, was academically dismantled in 2008, and 125 kHz proximity offers no meaningful protection at all. A large proportion of UK access control estates still run on one or the other, and the equipment to clone them costs less than a decent lunch.

The second conversation follows immediately: if we are changing the credential, should we be moving to mobile at the same time.

HID Credential Upgrades and Mobile Access Deployment

Credential migration from 125 kHz proximity and MIFARE Classic to encrypted platforms including HID iCLASS Seos and MIFARE DESFire EV3

Phased reader replacement, zone by zone, with old and new credentials running in parallel

HID Mobile Access deployment, including enrolment, revocation and fallback design

Reader upgrades to BLE and NFC capable hardware

OSDP reader-to-controller deployment to BS EN IEC 60839-11-5:2020, replacing legacy Wiegand

Credential lifecycle integration with HR onboarding and offboarding

Deployment within LenelS2 OnGuard, Software House C•CURE 9000, Gallagher and other enterprise platforms

Credential strategy planning against the Aliro open standard and long-life reader estates

Plan HID Credential and OSDP Upgrades Together

Replacing cloneable cards fixes one weakness. It does not fix the reader-to-controller link, which on legacy Wiegand transmits unencrypted and unsupervised, so a device spliced into the cable can capture credentials or inject them.

Doing the credential migration and the OSDP upgrade as one programme costs less and takes less disruption than doing them two years apart, because both require access to the same readers. We will say so even where it makes the immediate quote larger.

HID Mobile Access Deployment with Zero Tenant Disruption

Grade A Dublin office building, HID mobile credentials, live migration

A Dublin commercial property owner moved a flagship building from legacy ACT access control to C•CURE 9000 without interrupting tenant operations, and introduced mobile credentials as part of the same programme.

HID mobile-enabled readers and HID mobile credentials were deployed alongside the platform change, giving tenants smartphone access to the building. Lift destination control was integrated to manage vertical transport, and a tenant fit-out was brought onto the building-wide base build system.

The asset management team reported that the mobile credentials were particularly well received by tenants.

FAQs About HID

Tell us what is printed on them and what frequency your readers run at, and we can usually tell you in a phone call. If they are 125 kHz proximity or MIFARE Classic, the answer is yes.

No. Credential migration is normally phased zone by zone, running old and new credentials in parallel, starting with the highest-risk or highest-traffic entrances.

It depends on your access control platform and whether your readers have BLE or NFC capability. We assess both before recommending anything, and will tell you honestly if the reader estate makes it uneconomic this year.

HID's platform for issuing access credentials to smartphones, where the credential is held in the device's secure element and presented over an encrypted channel. It can be revoked centrally in seconds, which is its main operational advantage over a card.

Not necessarily, but you should factor it in. Aliro 1.0 was released by the Connectivity Standards Alliance in February 2026 as an open credential standard, with founder members including Apple, Google, HID and ASSA ABLOY. If you are committing to a reader estate with a ten-year life, that changes what is worth buying now. We will tell you which of your planned purchases are safe and which are worth delaying.
