AMAG Symmetry

AMAG Symmetry Integrator
Evolution is a qualified integrator for AMAG, with trained engineers across the group.
AMAG Symmetry Support, Upgrades and Phased Replacement
The M2150 controller range has been in the field for well over a decade, it is robust, and it does the job it was installed to do.
What changes is everything around it. Reader technology moves on. Software versions fall out of support. The integrator who installed it gets acquired or loses the engineers who knew the site. And at some point, somebody has to make a decision about an estate that has been quietly working for eleven years.
We get called in for three things, and they often turn out to be the same job.
The first is an upgrade. Usually a software version that has fallen far enough behind that somebody has finally raised it, or a reader estate that needs to move off Wiegand.
The second is replacement, or the question of whether replacement is necessary (It frequently is not). A Symmetry estate that has been maintained is rarely a candidate for wholesale rip-out, and phased modernisation costs a fraction of what a replacement programme does.
The third is a support takeover, and this is the most common of the three. The integrator has been acquired, or has lost the engineers who knew the site, and the contract is still in place while the capability behind it has quietly gone. Nothing has failed yet. Somebody has just worked out that nobody is really looking after it.
The reason these overlap is that the first thing a takeover needs is a survey, and the survey is usually what tells you whether you are looking at an upgrade or a replacement. Most organisations that call us about one of the three end up needing all three answered.
Moving AMAG Symmetry from Wiegand to OSDP
Anyone moving a Symmetry estate off Wiegand readers to OSDP runs into a sequencing problem, and it is usually discovered after the readers have been specified.
The OSDP door controller variants in the M2150 range are only available in an eight-door option, and they require Symmetry Access Control software version 9.9 or later. There is currently no OSDP elevator controller option at all.
So the reader upgrade is not a reader upgrade. It is a software upgrade, then a controller change, then readers, in that order. A site running an older Symmetry version that has budgeted for readers and cabling has budgeted for roughly the front third of the job.
The same principle applies to the legacy reader estate more broadly. Older Symmetry installations use AMAG’s proprietary multiNODE current loop protocol rather than an open standard, which means the existing reader population is not portable in the way people sometimes assume when they start pricing a swap.
Where a full controller replacement is not viable, the Symmetry SR series exists specifically as a retrofit form factor, giving up to sixteen doors in a compact enclosure designed to go into space vacated by legacy equipment.

FAQs About AMAG Symmetry
Yes, but in sequence. The OSDP controller variants require Symmetry Access Control version 9.9 or later, are available in an eight-door option, and there is no OSDP elevator controller option. The software upgrade comes first.
In December 2025 Allied Universal sold a majority stake in AMAG Technology to Shore Rock Partners, retaining a substantial minority interest, with AMAG president David Sullivan becoming chief executive. AMAG stated that day-to-day operations, support resources and customer-facing teams would remain in place. In practice, ownership changes at manufacturer level rarely affect an individual site in the near term. For most organisations the more immediate exposure sits with their integrator, whether the people who know the estate are still there, and still certified.
Yes. We regularly take over sites for maintenance, expansion and upgrades.
Not necessarily. The Symmetry SR series is designed as a retrofit path into existing enclosures, which makes phased modernisation possible where a full replacement is not commercially realistic.
