Josh Stanton wins the British GT finale at Brands Hatch

The Evolution-backed driver closed his first season of GT racing with pole position and a class win in the season finale two-hour season decider.

Josh Stanton and George Gamble won the GT4 class at Brands Hatch on Sunday, taking the #59 Optimum Motorsport McLaren Artura to victory in the final round of the 2026 British GT Championship.

The pair had taken class pole on Saturday, more than half a second clear of the next McLaren on combined times. Gamble led into Paddock Hill Bend on the opening lap of Sunday’s two-hour race and the car stayed in front of the GT4 field to the flag.

It was their second win in three rounds, after a dominant drive in the second Snetterton race in August, and the third class victory of Stanton’s season.

A first year with sharp edges

Josh Stanton arrived in British GT this season from Porsche one-make racing. He won the Carrera Cup GB Am championship in 2022, won at Portimão in Porsche Sprint Challenge Southern Europe, made his Supercup debut at the 2023 British Grand Prix and spent the last two seasons racing a 911 GT3 Cup car. British GT asked for something different: a McLaren he had not raced, two-hour races, driver changes and pit stops.

The start was promising. Third in class on debut at the three-hour Silverstone 500 in April, with the GT4 podium covered by 1.8 seconds. Then Oulton Park in May undid it. Josh retired from the first sprint race, and the Artura was too badly damaged to start the second. Two rounds gone.

His co-driver changed twice after that. Luca Hopkinson left the seat, Mikey Porter stood in for the Spa-Francorchamps round in June where Josh put the car on GT4 pole and won the Silver Cup class, and 2024 Carrera Cup GB champion George Gamble joined for the closing three weekends.

The championship’s success penalties did the rest. British GT adds pit-stop time to recent winners, which turned second on the road at Snetterton into fifth in the results and left the pair seventh at Donington Park in September carrying the maximum.

Josh went to Brands Hatch 30.5 points behind the class leaders with 37.5 points available. Winning was the easy part of that equation. The GT4 title was settled on countback in favour of Darren Turner and Daniel Lavery.

“It’s a dream of mine to be here, and to actually be living it, I could not be more grateful.” — Josh Stanton, speaking at the British GT drivers question time at Brands Hatch in September, before the final race of the season

Why Evolution backs Josh

Evolution has supported Josh Stanton through the 2026 British GT season. Motorsport and security systems integration are not obvious neighbours, but the working habits overlap more than you would expect: small margins, long hours and people who would rather fix a problem than explain it.

The sponsorship also gives our customers and our own teams a way to spend a day together that beats a conference room, and it gives Optimum Motorsport’s engineers and ours something to compare notes about.
